How it works
The NDIS and aged care processes, in plain English
Two different systems, two different doorways — and a lot of jargon in between. Here's the short version of each.
NDIS
Getting started with the NDIS
For people under 65 living with a permanent and significant disability.
Check your eligibility
Under 65, an Australian resident, and living with a permanent and significant disability. We can help you gather the evidence.
Create your plan
A planning conversation about your goals, daily life and supports. We help you prepare so nothing important gets missed.
Choose your providers
You decide who supports you. We shortlist options and set up service agreements.
Start and review
Supports begin, progress is tracked, and we prepare evidence well ahead of your plan review.
Aged care
Getting started with aged care
For older Australians who need a hand to keep living well at home.
Register with My Aged Care
For people aged 65+ (or 50+ for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people).
Have an assessment
An assessor visits to determine the level of support you need.
Receive your funding
Support at Home, a Home Care Package, or CHSP services — or start privately without waiting.
Choose QCare
We deliver and coordinate your supports and adjust them as your needs change.
FAQ
Common questions
Can I be on the NDIS and receive aged care?
Generally you access one or the other, but the rules depend on your age and when you entered the NDIS. We can talk you through which system applies to your situation.
What if I turn 65 while on the NDIS?
You can usually stay on the NDIS if you were a participant before turning 65. We help you weigh up the options if a change is being considered.
Do I need funding to start?
No. You can purchase support privately at any time, which is common while waiting for an assessment or package.
Do you provide in-home care?
Yes — in-home and community-based support for both NDIS participants and older Australians.
Still not sure which door you're meant to walk through?
Give us a call. We'll point you in the right direction, even if it turns out we're not the provider you need.
